Great location for the Manchester Marathon

Stayed here for two nights when I was visiting to do the Manchester marathon and the location was excellent for both this, and the trams into town. Staff were all polite, friendly and helpful. My partner had pizza in the bar on Saturday night and it was sadly a bit disappointing but breakfast was good. Once thing in particular that let us down was the smart TV. The only option was to watch free view or screen share from an android but we both have iPhones. An option to log into Netflix or prime would have been useful as we were staying in on the Saturday night and didn’t have much to watch. Overall, a decent enough experience but rooms quite costly for what you get,

Absolutely amazing stay ! Lovely hotel ! Room immaculate, fantastic shower ! Top quality toiletries in the room ! Lovely balcony overlooking the cricket ground ! Lovely dinner in the restaurant, staff very attentive! Breakfast ok ! Sausage n bacon hard and cold ! Mushrooms stone cold ! But toast and scrambled eggs good ! Huge shout out to Bradley on reception! Absolutely exceptional! Nothing was too much trouble ! Perfect person for front of house ! What a lovely young man

Wrong room, charged twice!

First of all my husband booked a room and on the day of our stay the price had increased substantially- after a phone call where a price match form was promised to be emailed across, we’re still waiting. On arrival we made our way up to our room on the fifth floor but the room key wouldn’t work. I waiting outside the room while husband went to get it sorted but while waiting was sure I could hear voices coming from the room. When we tried the new card it still didn’t work so I knocked on the door and to our horror there was a man’s voice that responded- thank goodness the key didn’t work. Back to reception to receive an apology that the room was in fact the wrong one!! Finally into the right room, we took one look at the bed and it was tiny! Checked we’d been given the king size we booked with the initial mess up to be told they’re king sized rooms with double beds!! To top it off, upon getting home the following day, turned out we’d only been charged twice for the room. Totally unacceptable for a room £200+ for a night.

This review is mainly for the new restaurant, The Edge. It’s The restaurant looks lovely on arrival and the staff were friendly. We ordered 1 Seabass, 2 steaks, 1 duck, we were asked how we would like the meat, all pink/medium. Food came out beyond well done, sent back, no apology and another 30 minute wait. When it was brought out it was wrong again, but we were hungry and ate it regardless. The Seabass was dry and all portions were very small. The duck breast, was 2 small slices of duck with 2 broccoli stalks and a piece of potato. The steaks were old and grey, hence why they looked well done. The menu showed 4 scallops for the starter but when ordered, only 3 on the plate, the images are very misleading, along with the picture of the perfectly cooked steak! We left disappointed and hungry even after paying over £300 for the meal, which automatically included the 12.5% service! We then returned for breakfast, which was fine, you can’t go wrong with breakfast we thought. But the staff spent their time chatting and chewing gum with their mouths open over the food… not a professional atmosphere. Overall the hotel is fine, but this restaurant has a long way to go. If staying at the hotel I would advise getting on the tram and finding somewhere else.

The photo of reception is out-of-date-no comfy place to sit now! Went for "winter" cricket; too early due to the ECB, greed and the IPL! A stupid idea and not cheap. The receptionists were fine but after that it was downhill. Paid already, after tortuous, hour long, new centralised booking system, via Indian sub-continent, cut-off so used chat-line. Thanks to the M/c v Liverpool game Saturday night was 3 times the cost of the cheapest, @£312.12. And that with Hilton Honours discount. Still we had a multi-lingual experience. We almost believed we were part of Man United plc! The beds, as reviewers have pointed out are hard. I ended up with back ache, as did others. They occupy most of the room. The one chair provided is too large to move through the small space between the beds and the small shelf cum table. But we had two chairs on the balcony. Shame it was too cold to sit out to watch cricket! Not hotel's fault. Ordered breakfast 2 days. Waitress said was buffet. Hot or cold? Well there is a cold buffet. The alleged hot buffet had bacon and sausages that were not s hot as the plates. Best bet for heat was scrambled egg and beans. Ah one can make piping hot toast. Put through twice or no added colour. This was the same as when the same as when the restaurant was next to reception, id est cold, and no fried eggs; slightly warm in new one. The bar staff were most friendly, as were the cricketers who could play little cricket. Ale, of course, is not cheap, nor is the wine. The bar snack we tried was the vegetarian pizza. The bases looked as if they were bought in as they were very regular, unlike hand thrown ones. The mushrooms, peppers and all other veg were finely chopped with minimal mushrooms. Tasted good, but should for almost 15 quid. The lady housekeepers were very helpful although they struggled with the English language. A last thought; like the LCCC pavilion it is card only so my handicapped son could not pay cash for a can of pop from the machine. He is very generous and would soon max-out a card! Ah well, Dad paid.
